Two weeks ago I had the chance to be at Emily’s Soto Workshop in Montréal !!! Ouii ! This has been a wonderful experience that I would recommend to anyone who is interested in Fashion Photography, portrait or fine art photography !!!
The first day was for me what I would call a “discovery and back to my roots day”. For the first time I experienced with continuous lighting, tried the Petzval Lenses, the new Polaroid from Impossible Project, and the Land 440 !!! I would never have been able to do all of that on my own in one day ! This workshop gives you this incredible opportunity to test out the method of another photographer, and then to implement it into your work. Moreover, Emily was there all day long to help us understand her way of doing photography, she is so open about her work, so passionate and so easy to talk with, that this day was really fun, calm and enjoyable !
Il y á de ça deux semaine, j’ai eu la chance de pouvoir suivre l’atelier photo d’Emily Soto !!!! Ce fut une expérience incroyable que je recommande fortement à toutes les personnes s'intéressant à la photographie de mode, mais aussi de portraits, fine arts etc... que vous soyez débutant ou déjà professionnel, vous allez adorer !!!
La première journée a été pour moi ce que j’appellerais une journée de découverte et de retour aux sources. Pour la première fois j’ai expérimenté la photographie de studio en lumière continue, j’ai testé les lentilles Petzval, le nouveau polaroid d’Impossible project et la polaroid land 440 !!! Je n’aurais fait tout ça par moi même, cela rend cet atelier une opportunité incroyable pour tester et essayer la méthode d’un autre photographe. En plus, Emily est quelqu’un de très ouvert, direct, et surtout très approchable. Elle nous a suivies tout au long de nos découvertes, répondues à tous nos questionnements, et surtout, fait de ce moment de création et de découverte un moment des plus agréable.
It’s been some times now that I have been looking out for perfection in my photography, I have been in a rush of creation, always trying to do a lot, to keep testing with no break, so this workshop came at a perfect timing. I’m going back home with this desire to take my time to create, this feeling that I need to go back to my roots, to why I’m doing this, and let my creativity take the part on my productivity. I hope, well no, I’m sure this will help me find my very own style. And yes, I also went back home with a full wish list of stuff I want to buy ! :P
Depuis quelque temps, je recherche une certaine perfection dans mes images, je crée dans l’instant et parfois trop souvent dans la précipitation, produire en masse était devenue une nécessité. Ainsi, cet atelier arrive au moment parfait. Je repars avec cette envie de retourner à mes sources, au pourquoi je me suis lancé dans la photographie et à ce qui m’a toujours attirée dans ce domaine. J’ai envie de prendre plus de temps pour créer et écouter réellement mes envies et ma vision artistique, et au bout du compte, j’y trouverais certainement mon propre style…. Bon, ok je repars aussi avec beaucoup de nouvelles envies d’achats ! :P
On the second day, in addition of giving us many tips on marketing and a full insight of her retouching work, Emily told us about her career, how she became the photographer we all know today. I loved this part, listening to her story gave me lots of courage to continue what I’m doing !!! We all have different journeys, but at the end, it’s the same thing that drives us to continue ! we are all passionate people !
Oh, and did I mention that I met many fabulous photographers!!! Love you all guys !!! You are all pretty Awesome!
La deuxième journée, en plus de nous avoir donné beaucoup trucs et astuces en marketing, et de nous avoir montré son travail de retouche, Emily nous a aussi et surtout raconté son parcours professionnel, comment elle en est arrivée là aujourd’hui. Entendre des photographes que j’admire parler de leur parcours professionnel me donne toujours autant de courage à poursuivre le mien. Nous avons tous des parcours différents, mais au final ce qui nous pousse tous à continuer dans ce domaine est notre passion.
Oh, et je vous ais dit qu’en plus j’ai rencontré des personnes plus que formidables !!! trop hâte de tous vous revoir !!!
